June 11, Feast Day of
St. Barnabas the Encourager

The St. Barnabas church family enjoyed a lovely Sunday Eucharist service and luncheon yesterday in celebration of St. Barnabas Day. Barnabas was one of the very first followers of Jesus and a leader of the early church.  The patron saint of second chances, his story is told in the Acts of the Apostles and he is also mentioned in Paul’s letters. Originally called Joseph, he was given the name Barnabas, which means "son of encouragement",  principally for his advocacy of St. Paul the Apostle, a former persecutor of Christians.
